Enticements and Challenges During the CSR Activity

I love when i help someone in my life because it always make me feel good. Most of group work problems I do face is time conflict with the member of the group and sometimes lack of motivation because of so many reasons, but working with Saratu and Aliyu was incredible. I dint like so many things such as going out every day to meet with different people with different mentality and point of view. Some think we are here to con  them, meaning while they did not comprehend CSR importance and what it might cause for their business. The most annoying and humiliating among all is  the way Binani' s manager treated us (lies). Transportation is also another factor. None of my group members were mobile, So transportation money was really a big challenge for my group because it was toward the end of the month and every one is out of cash.
The beneficiaries of the project are happy but I think I am happier than them
Mgt 360 is my best course for this year because it is not only reading the book and passing the exams rather Jelena Zivkovic (instructor) tried to relate what student read with real life which I think is the best way of learning.

Honda's pitch: She's pretty in pin

This is completely out of topic or not related to the issues discussed previously in my blog. I think is good for me to share this with women viewing my blog.
Pink is the most lovely color and preferable color to almost every woman on this earth. In a seldom occasion or one out ten women would choose  a different color rather than pink. So this is for you

Yasser Arafat's body exhumed

Ramallah, West Bank (CNN) -- The body of former Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat was exhumed Tuesday for tests to see if poisoning led to his 2004 death, according to WAFA, the official Palestinian news agency.

Palestinian officials hope the tests will clear up questions over whether Arafat's death eight years ago was the result of poisoning by the radioactive element polonium which was later found on Arafat's personal belongings.
The Palestinian Authority, which runs the West Bank, says it is convinced Israel is behind any poisoning of Arafat. Israel has declined to comment on the allegation.
Forensic experts from France, Switzerland and Russia took their own samples for independent analysis, said Tawfiq Tirawi, head of the Palestinian investigation committee.
"The operation of getting samples from the body of the martyr Yasser Arafat went as planned," Tirawi told WAFA.

Bill Gates – The World’s Best Philanthropist

Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates has given away $28 billion since 2007 and has saved approximately 6 million lives.
Posted on by
He is known as the founder of Microsoft, the world’s richest man, former CEO of Microsoft and plenty of other things. But one thing about his personality that’s missed many times is his interest and struggle for the welfare of humanity.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated 28 billion dollars in charitable works since 2007 which makes up 48% of Bill Gates’ net worth. The foundation works by bringing vaccines and improved healthcare facilities across the world especially in third world countries where such facilities and vaccines aren’t available. Funding such expensive projects is very difficult, even for some developed countries as they are too preoccupied in their own matters. This is why Bill Gates decided to take a stand and is still currently doing so.

Children across the world have given vaccines of potentially fatal diseases such as yellow fever, pneumonia, polio, whooping cough, HIB bacteria, measles and many more, saving at least six million lives over the past year and still counting. Bill Gates is not only donating his money to philanthropic causes but is also encouraging other fellow Americans to do the same. To do this he and his wife Melinda gates have created a foundation called the “Giving Pledge Foundation”.

Bill Gates also works and collaborates with international organizations such as United Nations, World Bank, UNICEF etc to provide cheap medicines to the third-world countries. The result of this effort forces the pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of vaccines. Bill Gates has spent over 200 million dollars only for malarial vaccines so that they can be provided to third world countries.
Bill has joined the elite group of philanthropists which includes legendry donators such as Warren Buffett, Donna and Philip Berber and many more.

CSR ACTIVITY DAY 3
It is really amazing for a company accepting to give back to society it operate in.
My Group went to meet with MEDDY PHARMACY manager which is also the owner. We explain what is CRS and also the importance of CSR for his business. We were really convincing about the activity we wish he should jump in and so fortunate for Shagary Primary School that would be the one benefiting from it.
Since we already have a place in mind and what to do, the manger of MEEDY decided to go visit the place.
the activity was to clean an existing well that being abandoned due one reason and the other such as lack of maintenance and so one, clear the surrounding, remove the dirt from inside, plastering its surrounding, getting a led for it and make the water potable for pupils.
the director of MEDDY was also touched when he saw the place but he is only willing to give N40 000, and promised to sponsor the following week.
Initially the budget was N85000 to complete the project. We then decided to look for another company to support the project. unfortunately it did not work out with Binany Suit which the company that really gave my group hope to finalize and let us down up to the point the manger was not even answering our calls.

CSR ACTIVITY DAY 2 ( 15 - 11 2012)
lucky for my group members and I and also MEDDY PHARMACY  that is willing to carry out CSR activity in other to compensate the community for the privilege the company is being given for the operation of their business in their environment.
3 years ago the owner of the pharmacy Dr Hafiz was a National Youth Copper in Federal Medical Center, Yola.  He was later employed as a permanent staff. Dr Hafiz then decided to open his own pharmacy in other to offer good medication and better service even outside his job.
At the end of our presentation for the benefit of CSR for his business Dr Hafiz gentle said "wow! this is really amazing." he then said he was planning to give back to community for the smooth success of his business supported by Yola community by next year. But he is really interested to do it now.

Corporate Social Responsibility activity

Reason for  the existence of my blog

As earlier mention in my first post i am a student in American university of Nigeria. moreover the main purpose of this blog is to keep posting ethical issues not only in Nigerian context but world wide. At the end, this would determine my score for the course i am enrolling currently.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility is in the Green Paper, the first comprehensive document about CSR, defined as „a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental tasks into their business activities and relationships with stakeholders
on a voluntary basis.
" But this is not the only one definition of CSR. A certain freedom is the point by which CSR can be implemented. The idea is that companies behave more responsibly than it is stated by legislative regulations. They go further –
beyond economic and legal regulations. This additional aspect is identified as an aspect of corporate social performance. The companies pay attention and invest more in human capital, relations with stakeholders and the environment. This interest
which is "in addition" may have a positive impact on increasing productivity and competitiveness, improving the image of the company including making a higher profit. The CSR should reflect a branch, location of the company, its subject and, of course, all kinds of stakeholders who can influence the company or who are influenced by the company.

Coca-Cola Continues Unethical and Dishonest Practices in India

Kala Dera is a large village outside the city of Jaipur where agriculture is the primary source of livelihood. Coca-Cola started its bottling operations in Kala Dera in 2000, and within a year, the community started to notice a rapid decline in groundwater levels.
Unusable Well in Kala Dera Confirms Depleted Water Levels
Unusable Well in Kala Dera Showing Depleted Water Level
For farmers, loss of groundwater translated directly into loss of income. For women, it meant having to walk an additional 5 to 6 kilometers just to fetch water to meet the basic daily needs of the family. For many children in Kala Dera, it meant leaving schools to provide a much needed helping hand doing household chores since the women had additional burdens. The community in Kala Dera organized itself to challenge the Coca-Cola company for the worsening water conditions - through extraction and pollution - and demanded the closure of the Coca-Cola bottling plant. The company, in usual fashion, denied any wrongdoing, blaming "outsiders" for the increasing local community opposition.
Build a Trust Relationship Over Time

Trust is built and maintained by many small actions over time. Marsha Sinetar, the author, said, “Trust is not a matter of technique, but of character; we are trusted because of our way of being, not because of our polished exteriors or our expertly crafted communications.”
You can build trusting relationships and a culture of trust in your workplace. You build trust through all of your actions and every interaction you have with coworkers and employees. You build trust one step at a time. Trust is fragile, but strengthens over time with - you guessed it - more trust. Prove yourself and your organization worthy.
Some faculties and staffs get sacked or voluntary leave American university of Nigeria because of lies, accusations and rumors without any allegation.

Inglewood gunman shoots 5 family members, killing 2, sets home on fire

Fili Lamas, a 30-year-old father and his 4-year-old son both died in surgery after the 4 a.m. attack incident. His wife, Gloria Jimenez, and two other children were also injured, said Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta.
Jimenez collapsed on a nearby street holding her dying son. She was able to carry the 4-year-old boy, even though she had been shot in both legs.
The injured children were a 6-year-old boy, who was shot in the pelvis, and a 7-year-old girl, who was shot in the chest. They were listed in critical, but stable condition at a nearby hospital, police said.
An 8-year-old boy was not injured, but was also taken to the hospital for observation.
The suspect, who police identified as Desmond John Moses, was last seen wearing a cap and painter's mask, was believed to still be near the scene of the shooting at a home in the 4900 block of 99th Street, police said.
But what could possibly cause this?
