Yasser Arafat's body exhumed

Ramallah, West Bank (CNN) -- The body of former Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat was exhumed Tuesday for tests to see if poisoning led to his 2004 death, according to WAFA, the official Palestinian news agency.

Palestinian officials hope the tests will clear up questions over whether Arafat's death eight years ago was the result of poisoning by the radioactive element polonium which was later found on Arafat's personal belongings.
The Palestinian Authority, which runs the West Bank, says it is convinced Israel is behind any poisoning of Arafat. Israel has declined to comment on the allegation.
Forensic experts from France, Switzerland and Russia took their own samples for independent analysis, said Tawfiq Tirawi, head of the Palestinian investigation committee.
"The operation of getting samples from the body of the martyr Yasser Arafat went as planned," Tirawi told WAFA.

  1. Yasser Arrafath was a true leader and I guess the last hope that Palestenians ever had. Although his struggle for a separate Palestinian state began with Terrorism related activites, he soon realized that nothing can be achieved by violence. He was a true follower of Gandhian principals. Unfortunately, there were no heirs to him and he was too old to be in politics. The brain dead muslims of Arab nations will never understand the importance of Non-Violence and hence things got messed up after Arafat's death. As far as I am concerned, Isreal has absolutely no reason to kill Arafat as things were good during his time. If this news of poisoning Arafat is true then undoubtedly it should be Hamas whose ideologies and methods are quite opposite to Arafat. As long as Hamas is present in Gaza, there won't be any peace for the common Gazaians. More than Isreal, the Hamas itself treats Gazaians as filthy rats. Poor People. But this news about digging up Arafat is really a bad one. Atleast rest him in peace after his death.
